At our school, Project-Based Learning (PBL) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) are at the heart of meaningful, hands-on education. This term, our Year 7 students embarked on an exciting interdisciplinary challenge that combined design thinking, sustainability, and craftsmanship. Their task? To design and build functional desk organizers for their teacher clients—using only recycled materials.
This project was more than just a classroom activity—it was an authentic learning experience that encouraged students to think critically about sustainability, design, and consumer responsibility. By integrating PBL and STEAM, they not only honed their technical skills but also developed empathy and awareness for global challenges.
